Writing Tip: 44#

Keep your exclamation points under control. You are allowed no more than two or three per 100,000 words of prose. If you have the knack of playing with exclaimers the way Tom Wolfe does, you can throw them in by the handful. — Elmore Leonard

Excellent advice. I find myself considering the exclamation point, then reading again to see if I have conveyed the sense of the sentence well enough in words to negate the need for that punctuation device. In 90K words I have none.
